GREY Synopsis:

Grey is a hybrid experimental film that follows Sage, a Native woman reckoning with aging, identity, and generational trauma. When she discovers a grey hair on her head, she’s unsettled by how out of place it feels against her long, dark hair. The hair is more than a sign of aging. It’s tied to a violent lineage embodied by a man whose presence still haunts her. Sage begins to confront the dualities within herself: vanity and wisdom, performance and truth, erasure and survival.

Through fragmented memories, archival footage, and symbolic imagery, Grey becomes a meditation on the weight of bloodlines, the violence of beauty standards, and the quiet power of reclaiming one’s voice.

Director’s Statement:

Grey is a meditation on inherited trauma and the quiet endurance of Native women. The haunting presence in the film reflects a lineage born from violence, my paternal grandmother’s assault, and the life that followed, as well as my own experiences with sexual assault. The film asks what it means to carry both pain and persistence, to face what was done and still choose to live with tenderness. In creating Grey, I seek to end the silence that shaped generations before me, to honor them by breaking what must not continue.

Teaser for GREY, a 17:30 minute hybrid short.
